The first test that your dog would go through is called the (VJP), the natural ability test. This test is done when the dog is around one year old, the Judges (minimum of 3) will evaluate your dog on 5 areas.
There is no dog competing against another dog, There are no winners or losers. The scores only reflect relative performance of a dog measured against a common standard. This is to evaluate your dog’s natural ability.
- Pointing, how and what the dog does in this area.
- Nose, how your dog uses its nose.
- Tracking, Your dog will track a rabbit that he or she did not see and is let loose to see how well it follows the track.
- Search, You will turn your dog loose and walk with the judges to see how your dog searches the area that you are in.
- Cooperation, how well your dog cooperates with you.
